The Master of Theological Essentials (MTE) provides a foundation for Christian thought. Students learn the biblical story from Genesis to Revelation, develop essential theological skills, and apply those skills in a ministry environment.
The MTE is a 36 credit-hour degree focused on core theological fields, and all of the required courses of the MTE can be applied to Gateway's other master's programs.
The Diploma in Theological Essentials (DpTE) is intended to provide core theological training, primarily for lay ministry leaders or ministry leaders receiving vocational training in a church setting or in another academic setting.
The DpTE includes 24 hours of course work focusing on a theological core, and an additional 12 hours of theological field education focused on ministry formation, practicums, and biblical foundations.
In addition to the MTE, students can earn the Intermountain Church Ministry Certificate, designed to further equip students spiritually, theologically, and missionally.
The Intermountain Church Ministry Certificate includes the completion of the MTE or DpTE and the following additional requirements:
Upon written permission of the course professor, current students, as well as those with a high school diploma or at least 18 years old, may audit a course. The required audit application is available at the Gateway Seminary website. Online and Remote Access classes cannot be audited.
The core courses of the MTE/DpTE are intended to be offered in-person and are available for audit.
